Edgar Renteria drove in Johnson in the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, to score the winning run. Two good innings by Dennis Cook earned him the win. Brown pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run.
Kevin Brown won his 16th game and Robb Nen recorded save number 35 as the Marlins beat the Expos 6-3, officially clinching the National Leagues’ Wild-Card spot.
The Florida Marlins can officially claim the National League Wild-Card by beating the New York Mets, tonight at 7:05 at Pro Player Stadium. This would be the first playoff appearance for the 5-year old club. The Marlins can also clinch with a Dodgers Loss.
Garry Sheffield‘s 16th Home Run of the season clinched a come-from-behind victory as the Marlins swept the Orioles, the team with the best record in baseball. Combined with Atlanta’s loss, the Marlins are only down 2 games in the loss column to the Braves.
