Rick VandenHurk was sent down to AAA clearing room for Anibal Sanchez to return to the rotation. Since his next start isn’t scheduled until Saturday in Atlanta, Gaby Sanchez was called up for the next few days to give the Fish another bat while Nick Johnson recovers from a strained right hamstring.

The Marlins pitching roller coaster continues as Anibal Sanchez is back on the 15-day DL and Cristhian Martinez was called back to the Majors. Ricky Nolasco is likely to be brought back in time to take Sanchez’s start on Sunday.

Looks like Chris Coghlan is on his way to the Majors. Coghlan will take Anibal Sanchez’s spot on the roster and will likely play second, third and outfield. The Fish need to kick start their offense and some of the biggest gaps are at second (Uggla), third (Bonifacio) and the entire outfield.

Anibal Sanchez was named the Marlins’ fourth stater and Andrew Miller will pitch in the fifth spot. Miller’s first start is scheduled for April 15th, so he will be available for long relief during the first week of the season.

Ricky Nolasco.

I guess throwing a no-hitter in Spring Training made the decision easier for Fredi Gonzalez.

As expected, Josh Johnson will take the second spot and Chris Volstad will pitch the third game. Either Anibal Sanchez or Andrew Miller will take the fourth spot with the other going to the bullpen until April 18th, when the Marlins will need a fifth starter.

Here is what Fredi had to say:

The first Spring Training game for 2009 is in the books as the Marlins rallied to tie the Cardinals 5-5. Among the bright spots for the Marlins was a Hanley Ramirez 2-run home run. Unfortunately, Anibal Sanchez had a rough start, allowing 3 hits and walking 3 in 2 innings and the defense performed like it’s 2008. Since the game ended in a tie, the only winners are people like us, Fish fans who are excited to see the team back in action.
