  • Marlins Agree to Terms with Saltalamacchia

  • The Marlins have agreed to a 3-year $21 million dollar contract with free-agent catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The deal pays Saltalamacchia $6 million in 2014, $7 million in 2015 and $8 million in 2016. As is their policy, the Marlins did not include a no-trade clause in the agreement.

The 28 year old Saltalamacchia spent last season with the World Champion Boston Red Sox where he hit .273 with 14 home runs and 65 RBIs in 121 games. The Marlins hope that a veteran catching core of Saltalamacchia and Jeff Mathis will provide the stability needed to support a young and very talented pitching staff.
