• Marlins Suspend Ozzie Guillen 5 Games for Castro Remarks

  • The Marlins have announced that they have suspended Ozzie Guillen 5 games for his recent remarks to Time Magazine where he expressed his “love” for Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

    The Miami Marlins announced today the suspension of manager Ozzie Guillen for five games effective immediately. The Marlins acknowledge the seriousness of the comments attributed to Guillen. The pain and suffering caused by Fidel Castro cannot be minimized especially in a community filled with victims of the dictatorship.

    Joey Cora will manage the club in Guillen’s absence.

    Yes, it’s opening day for the Marlins and season 20 looks more colorful than ever. Gone is Florida and the aging stadium where the Dolphins play and in is Miami and the stunning new Marlins Park. The season brings many questions – can Reyes and Bonifacio run wild, will Hanley rebound to his MVP-like days, how many times will Stanton set off the Red Groomes Home Run Structure and will Josh Johnson stay healthy for a full season.

    It all kicks off tonight at 7:05 PM in Marlins Park where Josh Johnson faces off against the St. Louis Cardinals and Kyle Lohse. Prior to that, the Marlins a planning an elaborate pregame show so get to your seats early. The games airs on ESPN and MLB will stream pregame activities from 3-5PM on marlins.com.
