  • Marlins take a 1-0 lead over the Giants with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory. Charles Johnson the game at 1 with a home run to left field. Edgar Renteria drove in Johnson in the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, to score the winning run. Two good innings by Dennis Cook earned him the win. Brown pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run.

  • Marlins Can Clinch Tonight

  • The Florida Marlins can officially claim the National League Wild-Card by beating the New York Mets, tonight at 7:05 at Pro Player Stadium. This would be the first playoff appearance for the 5-year old club. The Marlins can also clinch with a Dodgers Loss.

  • Tickets for the first round of the playoffs were made available. The Marlins will play the winner of the West (the Giants have a 2-game lead) at the Stadium on September 30 and October 1. Expect Kevin Brown to start the first game and either Al Leiter or Alex Fernandez to start the second.

  • Garry Sheffield‘s 16th Home Run of the season clinched a come-from-behind victory as the Marlins swept the Orioles, the team with the best record in baseball. Combined with Atlanta’s loss, the Marlins are only down 2 games in the loss column to the Braves.
