  • Marlins Acquire Lefty Nate Robertson to be 5th Starter

  • The Marlins didn’t want to enter the season without a left-handed starter so earlier today they reacquired Nate Robertson from the Detroit Tigers for minor league pitcher Jay Voss. As part of the deal, Detroit will absorb a majority of his $10 million contract. Robertson will take the 5th spot in the rotation, pushing Clay Hensley into the bullpen. Robertson was in the Marlins system as late as 2002 when he was traded to Detroit for Mark Redman.

  • Turnbow in Big Pain, Comeback Over

  • Looks like Derrick Turnbow’s comeback attempt with the Marlins, and probably his career, is over. After Turnbow was pulled from a Spring Training game today, Joe Frisaro tweeted:

#Marlins Turn ow said shoulder pain today 10 times worse than broken elbow

    Ouch.

  • Deadspin Never Paid Attention to Fish, Assumes They Don’t Exist

  • In its Spring Training baseball preview, Deadspin has decided to take shots at every team and of course the Marlins were fish in a barrel. Will Leitch looks at some of the best players in team history and suggests that he doesn’t remember them as Marlins.

Here are the five humans who have started the most games on the mound for the Marlins, in order: Willis, A.J. Burnett, Brad Penny, Ryan Dempster, Pat Rapp.

When you conjure up images of those players, not a single one of them is wearing a Marlins uniform. (With the possible exception of Pat Rapp, whom I’m impressed you remember at all.) The only Florida Marlin historical figure — as historical as anything that started in 1993 can be — who comes to my mind is Jeff Conine, for some reason. Maybe that weird mascot. Actually, it’s just the Manatees. In case you forgot what state the Marlins play in.

  • Marlins Sign Uggla to 1-Year $7.8MM Deal

  • The Marlins have agreed to a 1-year $7.8MM deal with Dan Uggla, avoiding what could have been an ugly arbitration hearing (aren’t they all?). Despite the edict to spend more money, the Fish are apparently still shopping Uggla around. But, at this point, it’s very likely that Uggla will be the opening day second baseman.
