Marlins Beat Braves 6-5; Stay in First Place
Home runs by Mike Jacobs and Luis Gonzalez combined with Mark Hendrickson making it to the 6th inning, and the Marlins go to 9-5 and keep a 1.5 game lead in the National League East.

Scott Olsen kept throwing strikes and makes it through 7 innings – Marlins beat the Braves 4-0. With that kind of performance, you will win most of the time. Now we need the other starters to break through that 5th inning wall.
The Fish set a new club record hitting 6 home runs in a 10-6 win over the Houston Astros. Red-hot Jeremy Hermida hit two while the other home runs were hit by league leader Mike Jacobs, Mike Rabelo in his Marlins debut, Jorge Cantu who literally hit it out of the park and Hanley Ramirez. Ricky Nolasco looked shaky but managed to complete 5 innings and earn the win.
Another win for the first place Marlins, this time riding a strong performance by Mark Hendrickson and surviving another outfield blunder. Great play by Josh Willingham to save a game tying homerun.
In unrelated news, Mike Rabelo was activated off the DL and Paul Hoover was sent down to AAA.
The Chicago White Sox have acquired Cabrera. That is, Orlando Cabrera from the Angels.
But that’s not the story here.
Looks like they’re focused on an all-Cabrera left side of the infield as their GM Ken Williams claims that this deal clears some financial room ($3MM) for another deal. And that deal is:
“We’re not done yet. We’re still trying to land a big fish,” Williams said.
You know who which fish he’s talking about.
With the losses and injuries, I figure we all need a laugh right now. Here is one of the great “Billy Gone Wild” Videos featuring our very own Billy the Marlin.
For our first video post, we picked out this footage of what the Marlins new ballpark by the Orange Bowl would have looked like. Based on images and tidbits that surfaced online, we believe this large wooden model was built by Scale Models Unlimited and housed in HOK’s Kansas City offices.
We don’t know the status of the ballpark at this time. Many in Miami-Dade are still pushing for the OB site and no one has indicated that the ballpark deal is dead. Regardless, lets enjoy what could have been and what could still be.
A.J. Burnett became the third Marlin to throw a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory against the Padres.
In an erratic performance, Burnett struck out 7 but walked 9. The 9 walks tied Al Leiter’s team record for most walks in a gem. Leiter (1996) and Kevin Brown (1997) threw the other Marlins no-hitters. Of Burnett’s 128 pitches, nearly half – 63 – were called as balls. It was Burnett’s second start of the season after spending the first month of the season on the DL. The rest of the Marlins supported him with several outstanding defensive plays and three runs. Charles Johnson’s two-run double scored Eric Owens and Preston Wilson. CJ grounded into a fielder’s choice in the fifth, leading to a Cliff Floyd run following an error.
The win was Burnett’s first career complete game and 8th major league win.
