The Miami Marlins have named Mike Redmond as the team’s new manager.
Redmond, who spend 12 years in the majors, including 7 years with the Marlins (1998-2004), agreed to a 3-year contract and will be introduced at Marlins Park on Friday at 1:30 PM.
Redmond appeared to be the favorite going into the managerial search process with the Marlins rumored to be focusing on former players with limited Managerial experience. Jeff Conine, Mike Lowell and Brad Ausmus were not interested in the job and Luis Gonzalez was interviewed. The Marlins also looked at Lloyd Mclendon, Bryan Price and Larry Bowa.
So far, sources have confirmed that Perry Hill will join Redmond’s coaching staff. Juan C. Rodriguez is reporting that Reid Cornelius, currently the Marlins bullpen coach, will take over as pitching coach.
The news was first reported by CBS’s John Heyman:
Mike Lowell, who advocated for his friend getting the job, tweeted:
Ozzie Guillen also chimed in to congratulate Redmond:
