• Marlins Request 2015 All-Star Game

  • The Fish have formally requested that MLB award the 2015 All-Star Game to the new ballpark in Miami. While MLB usually waits a few years before awarding games to new parks and the team has denied any promise, you have to wonder if there was a wink or a nod from MLB during the negotiation process with the City and County. Regardless, it would be a great way to celebrate the relaunch of baseball in South Florida.

  • Nick Johnson a Marlin (Updated x 2)

  • The Marlins have acquired 1B Nick Johnson from the Washington Nationals for minor league pitcher Aaron Thompson. Despite earlier rumors that the deal was dead after the Nats rejected Ryan Tucker, it’s amazing that the Fish were able to close the deal for only Thompson. This is bad news for Emilio Bonifacio who will likely move into a utility role while Jorge Cantu returns to 3B.

Update: Beinfest and Hill clearly out maneuvered the Nats. Not only did they complete the trade for a lesser prospect, they also convinced the Nats to cover Johnson’s remaining $1.8 million salary.

  • Gaby Sanchez Called Up

  • The Marlins called up Gaby Sanchez to take up Andrew Miller‘s roster spot. This could mean bad news for Emilio Bonifacio or Dan Uggla or it could just be nothing more than a call-up.

    • Sorry to bother you on the comment section, but I am interested in advertising on your site by placing three to five links embedded in a short text ad on the side bar. Please respond if you are open to such a deal.

  • Andrew Miller Shipped to AAA

  • In a somewhat unexpected move, the Marlins sent Andrew Miller to AAA after a terrible outing against the Phillies. Miller showed no control of his pitches and at times his velocity was in the low 80s. Rick VandenHurk, who pitched 6 good innings last night against the Padres, will assume Miller‘s spot in the rotation. With 12 pitchers already on the roster, the Marlins are likely to call up a position player.

    • ANDREW MILLER IS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO THE MARLINS BECAUSE DONTRELLY SUCKED. ANDREW HAS MORE CAPABILITIES THAN DONTRELLE EVER DID. THE MARLINS SENDING ANDREW DOWN THERE IS A MISTAKE AND I REALLY DON’T BELIEVE THAT HE HAS EVER BEEN BAD, I THINK THEY JUST WANT TO TRADE HIM FOR SOMEONE WHO IS AVAILABLE, LIKE ROY HALLADAY. IF THEY GET RID OF ANDREW THEY ARE MAKING THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. ANDREW WILL BE GREAT AND HE WILL DEVELOP INTO A PRIZE PITCHER. HE NEEDS TO KEEP HIS PITCHING THE WAY HE WAS DOING BEFORE THEY TRIED TO CHANGE EVERYTHING, AND NO WONDER HE HAS A HARD TIME NOW. ANDREW IS A GREAT PERSON AND A GREAT PITCHER. MAYBE HE NEEDS TO GO SOMEWHERE WHERE HE IS APPRECIATED AND NOT WHERE THEY TRY TO CHANGE HIM. STOP BEING SO HARD ON HIM. HE WILL FIND HIS WAY BACK WHETHER HE IS A MARLIN OR IN ANOTHER TEAM.

  • Scene from Last Night’s Game

  • With a full moon hovering over the ballpark, Sean West played with fire all night long and eventually was burned on the grand slam. Marlins made a serious run in the 9th but ultimately Bonifacio struck out with the tying run at third grounded out to the pitcher with the tying run at third.

    • Actually, Bonifacio did not strike out to end the game; he hit a chopper back to the pitcher.
