Hanley Ramirez was voted the starting shortstop and Josh Johnson was named a reserve to the 2009 National League All-Star team. Hanley will make his second consecutive start at the All-Star Game while Josh earned his first appearance.
The Marlins have signed veteran reliever Brendan Donnelly and he should be available to pitch today. Donnelly recently opted out of his minor league deal with the Astros. The 38-year old has two world series rings (Angels 2002 and Boston 2007). To make room for Donnelly, Chris Leroux was put on the DL.
The Fish signed Luis Ayala to a one-year deal and sent him to New Orleans for at least two outings. Ayala, who was released by the Twins this morning, is a veteran NL East reliever who can add some depth to the Marlins’ overworked and injured bullpens.

With the 18th pick in the first round pick in the MLB Draft, the Marlins selected LHP Chad James from Yukon High School in Oklahoma.

The Marlins pitching roller coaster continues as Anibal Sanchez is back on the 15-day DL and Cristhian Martinez was called back to the Majors. Ricky Nolasco is likely to be brought back in time to take Sanchez’s start on Sunday.
It only took a few pitches last night to realize that Hayden Penn was on his way out. After another atrocious outing, where he walked in 3 runs, Penn was designate for assignment.

The Marlins made their loudest move of the year by shipping the struggling Ricky Nolasco to AAA to get his act together. Nolasco was the top of the rotation, pitching on opening day after a stellar 15-win season. At 2-5 with an ERA over 9.00, Nolasco desperately needs to figure out his fastball and confidence. Sean West was called up from AA and will start on Saturday night. Dave Davidson, who struggled in one terrible inning tonight was DFA-ed and AA righty Chris Leroux was called up to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen.
