Randy St. Claire Named Pitching Coach
The not-so-long search for a pitching coach has ended with the hiring of Randy St. Claire. Let’s hope he can fix Chris Volstad and Andrew Miller.
The not-so-long search for a pitching coach has ended with the hiring of Randy St. Claire. Let’s hope he can fix Chris Volstad and Andrew Miller.
With the minor league seasons all but over, the Marlins are calling up their demoted Major Leaguers including Andrew Miller, Chris Volstad and Gaby Sanchez. Additionally, Brendan Donnelly was reactivated off the DL.
The Marlins called up Gaby Sanchez to take up Andrew Miller‘s roster spot. This could mean bad news for Emilio Bonifacio or Dan Uggla or it could just be nothing more than a call-up.
In a somewhat unexpected move, the Marlins sent Andrew Miller to AAA after a terrible outing against the Phillies. Miller showed no control of his pitches and at times his velocity was in the low 80s. Rick VandenHurk, who pitched 6 good innings last night against the Padres, will assume Miller‘s spot in the rotation. With 12 pitchers already on the roster, the Marlins are likely to call up a position player.
ANDREW MILLER IS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO THE MARLINS BECAUSE DONTRELLY SUCKED. ANDREW HAS MORE CAPABILITIES THAN DONTRELLE EVER DID. THE MARLINS SENDING ANDREW DOWN THERE IS A MISTAKE AND I REALLY DON’T BELIEVE THAT HE HAS EVER BEEN BAD, I THINK THEY JUST WANT TO TRADE HIM FOR SOMEONE WHO IS AVAILABLE, LIKE ROY HALLADAY. IF THEY GET RID OF ANDREW THEY ARE MAKING THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. ANDREW WILL BE GREAT AND HE WILL DEVELOP INTO A PRIZE PITCHER. HE NEEDS TO KEEP HIS PITCHING THE WAY HE WAS DOING BEFORE THEY TRIED TO CHANGE EVERYTHING, AND NO WONDER HE HAS A HARD TIME NOW. ANDREW IS A GREAT PERSON AND A GREAT PITCHER. MAYBE HE NEEDS TO GO SOMEWHERE WHERE HE IS APPRECIATED AND NOT WHERE THEY TRY TO CHANGE HIM. STOP BEING SO HARD ON HIM. HE WILL FIND HIS WAY BACK WHETHER HE IS A MARLIN OR IN ANOTHER TEAM.
The Marlins’ overused bullpen will be getting help soon as Carlos Martinez will be called up from AAA after Graham Taylor pitches tonight. The Marlins won’t need a fifth starter for another 10 days, at which point Martinez will probably head back to AAA to make room for a starter (hopefully Andrew Miller).
The Marlins 2009 roster is now complete.

Anibal Sanchez was named the Marlins’ fourth stater and Andrew Miller will pitch in the fifth spot. Miller‘s first start is scheduled for April 15th, so he will be available for long relief during the first week of the season.
Ricky Nolasco.
I guess throwing a no-hitter in Spring Training made the decision easier for Fredi Gonzalez.
As expected, Josh Johnson will take the second spot and Chris Volstad will pitch the third game. Either Anibal Sanchez or Andrew Miller will take the fourth spot with the other going to the bullpen until April 18th, when the Marlins will need a fifth starter. More
As we hit the expanded September rosters, the Marlins have called up 5 players: Dallas McPherson, Robert Andino, Andrew Miller, Brett Carroll, and Eulogio De La Cruz.
Marlins fans should be very excited to watch McPherson who leads all of Minor League Baseball with 42 home runs. With so many players facing arbitration, Dallas may be auditioning for a starting job next year.
Josh Johnson was incredible tonight, throwing the Marlins second complete game of the season holding the Braves to one run and striking out eight. I know the Fish have a long way to go to catchup to the Phillies and we’ve all heard about the 18 arbitration eligible players but when you look at Johnson, Ricky Nolasco, Anibal Sanchez, Chris Volstad, Scott Olsen and even Andrew Miller you have to believe that this team is going to do really well very soon.
